Knock You Naked Brownies

I am a huge fan of Ree Drummond, also known as the Pioneer Woman. I love watching her on the Food Network on TV. Her recipes are amazing and easy to follow and she puts them on her blog with easy to follow directions and pictures to help you out along the way. Another reason I am hooked on Ree, is she is a stay at home mom who lives in Oklahoma, just like me!

The other day, while I was in the ER getting my shoulder checked out again, I caught her show. She was making Football food. There were a couple of recipes that she was featuring on that show that really caught my attention. The one that I was able to watch was the “Knock you naked” Brownies. The other one was her recipe for Asian style hot wings, but that recipe came on while I was getting x-rays.

I came home and found that I had all of the ingredients for the delicious looking brownies. So with Ty’s help I made a batch yesterday for Sunday dinner dessert today. I left off the powdered sugar though, because I decided to heat them up slightly in the microwave and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for something seriously decadent. Ree was right, they were really scrumptious.

I have got to go back to her blog and find that Asian wing recipe!

Spending Time With My “Claire-Bear”

Posted on

Yesterday I guess I got a call from one of my good friends Claire. Ty answered the phone for me since I was sleeping and told her that he would have her call me when I woke up. I woke up an hour or two later and found out that she was in Elk City and they were staying at the Hampton Inn out by I-40 and Walmart. She had called because she was bored sitting in the hotel room alone while her husband CJ was working and wanted to know if she could come by with her 2 year old daughter so she could play with the twins while Claire and I visited and spent time together. I was super excited to get to spend time with my “Claire-Bear”!

The last time Claire and I had spent time together was back in November, she came to the hospital to see us when Ty had his accident at work and had to have surgery on his wrist. Claire and I used to work together when we lived in Alva. We quickly became good friends and have remained good friends. Her husband has moved his business from Ponca City to Elk City, and they will more than likely be moving down here after she has their new baby boy in April. CJ has also been talking to Ty about getting his CDL and coming to work for him too, which would be a good move for us financaily and we wouldn’t have to move again from Elk City.

Claire came by the house and visited with us for about an hour or two, and then went back to the hotel with plans to come back today. She came back today, and I had a box of hair dye and needed to redo my hair. Because my shoulder is broken, I haven’t been able to do it myself, and Ty is hopeless when it comes to women’s hair. So I didn’t dare ask him, who knows how it would have turned out. CJ was here with her and their daughter for a while too, then he had to head out to work for a couple hours. So Claire and I went and did a little bit of girl time hitting some of the stores and I showed her around Elk City a little bit.

I really hope that they move here, I have been fairly lonely since we moved to Elk City. I have my friend Gypsey, who was my neighbor at the apartments that we used to live in, and I have been making friends with other ladies at church. Having Claire here would be amazing though, her daughter plays so well with the twins and they would be able to have their friend to play with again as well! I have really missed my friend and look forward to spending time with her again.

Back To The ER

Today is 8 days after the car accident. Ava is healing up beautifully, and Layla was the luckiest of all of us. I ran out of pain medication today, and I have tried making an appointment with the bone and joint doctor that they referred me to when they discharged me from the ER after the accident. Unfortunately, they do not accept car insurance payments. I do not have my own private health insurance, and I don’t have the cash to pay for the appointment and then wait for the insurance company to reimburse me. So I was unable to secure an appointment, I guess I will have to just do a google search and try to find one near me that will accept the car insurance payment.

It has been 8 days since the accident, the doctor who treated me after the accident had told me that I should be able to take the sling off in 4 or 5 days. We are past that mark and I am still in excruciating pain and cannot take my arm out of the sling, otherwise it hurts even worse. So, back to the ER I go.

This time I saw the doctor that treated Layla when we were admitted to the ER last week. He ordered new x-rays on me, because he agreed with me that I should be out of the sling and not in so much pain that some Advil can’t take care of it. When he got the X-rays back, we found out that I will have to be in the sling much longer, as in 6-8 weeks longer. My shoulder does in fact have a fracture. It was dislocated badly in the accident. They took two sets of x-rays right after the accident, one right before they reset my shoulder into the joint and the other set right after. The first set of x-rays showed that I had a break in the humerus, then the second set showed no fracture. Well after some of the swelling went down, they were able to see the fracture again.

I am not happy at all about having to spend the next month and a half to two months one armed. Though I know that I need to that way I can heal up properly so that I can take care of my family. I don’t think I have to be happy about it though!

Disappointment

This weekend we were supposed to go up to Kansas to help my grandmother move from Kinsley, to Preston where my sister and mother live. My grandma called me as soon as she found out what had happened to us on Tuesday with the car accident and everything. I was so upset that I couldn’t come and help her, that I started crying. My grandma started crying too and said that I have to get better and take care of Ava and Layla so that they can heal up as well. I love my grandma so much, Ava and Layla really love their granny too. I am sure David and Carrie love her a lot as well, but when we have family gatherings they usually give her a quick hug and then run off to play with their cousins.

Speaking of Carrie, I was also supposed to go and see her since I was going to be in Kansas and I was also supposed to go to Wichita to take my dad a set of bed rails and other household stuff that I need to get rid of and he needs for his house. I hope I am not letting anyone down this weekend. I hope that I will soon recover and be able to see them all real soon!

Going Home?

We are finally home! Ava was released from the hospital today. The doctor came in on rounds this morning and said she is doing great,

but he wanted physical therapy/wound care to come in one more time and assess her wounds, change the bandages and show us one more time how to clean and take care of her wounds.

While we were waiting on physical therapy to come and check her out, we took the girls down to the sixth floor to Child Life and the play room. It was good to get out of the hospital room for a little bit, even though we couldn’t leave the hospital yet. While we were down there the girls had a fun time playing. Ava did get frustrated a couple times, because she still had the IV in her foot and couldn’t walk or run while it was still in there. In fact, Ty got Ava out of the wagon and sat her on the floor, she saw some toys and started to take off running toward them. Ty had to grab her up quickly before she yanked out her IV. He did it quickly and instinctively and forgot about her wounds and grabbed her under her armpits. Under her left armpit is where the worst of the damage is too. It caused her a brief bit of pain, and we comforted her and carried her to the toys that she wanted to play with. She had a very good time getting to play with her sister. She actually got to spend most of her day out of the hospital bed playing with Layla and watching some of their favorite TV shows like Curious George.

We then went back to the room and physical therapy came, she did so much better today. Maybe it was because her nurse medicated her before they came in this time, but she didn’t cry and she remembered to say “Thank You” again. I am so very proud of my little lady. Later this afternoon the nurse came in and we did the discharge papers.

Ty’s sister Rocq’uel came and we went to Walmart so I could pick up new car seats for the girls. If you have ever been in an accident and your children are in car seats, you MUST buy new ones. In fact, the fire department/EMS are supposed to cut the straps on the car seats so that the are no longer able to be used. Once a car seat has been through an accident, it is no longer safe for use. Ty’s sister and her husband are expecting a baby soon, so while I was in the store I went ahead and made them a gift of a case of diapers and a big package of wipes, since they haven’t gotten anything to prepare for the new baby’s arrival.

Our pastor showed up right about the time that we got back from the store. We got everything loaded up and got on the way home after we stopped and picked up Ava’s prescriptions. I am so happy to be home and able to lay in my own bed! David’s dad will be bringing him home on Sunday.  I am even happier that all of us are here and safe!
